A World on Fire and A Man in a Mirror

Posted on Jan 6th, 2007 by Nishtha : Imaginative Mellifluous Philosopher Nishtha

These two singer/songwriters have already eloquently shared with the world sentiments that I hold near and dear to my heart so, I am presenting their words, music and images for your consideration....

Man In The Mirror

I'm starting with the man in the mirror
I'm asking him to change his ways
And no message could've been any clearer
If you wanna make the world a better place
Take a look at yourself and then make that...
Change!

And now, for a different decade, a different voice (female), a different perspective (Canadian), and yet more of the same....

Sarah McLachlan - World On Fire

The world's on fire and
It's more than I can handle
I'll tap into the water
Try and bring my share
I try to bring more
More than I can handle
Bring it to the table
Bring what I am able

If you are moved by what you see and hear here, you too, can make a difference in someone's life.....

Share your smile with someone today....and tomorrow....and the day after....

Call/email a friend you haven't heard from in a while....tell them that you were thinking about them and wish them well....

Write a letter to someone you love and send it via the post....envision their joy when they come across something other than bills and junk in their mailbox....

And if you like, and are able, consider volunteering or making a donation to a charity that stands for something you believe in..... Sarah's choices are great....and here are my personal favorites:
Doctors Without Borders/Medecins sans Frontieres
World Wildlife Fund
Rainforest Action Network
Project Open Hand

In the words of another great singer/songwriter, "Imagine all the people living life with peace. You may say I'm a dreamer but I'm not the only one. I hope some day, you'll join us and the world will live as one."

Namaste.

Nishtha!  Thank you!  The Sarah MacLaghlan video is soooooo powerful!  I didn't know about it, and that's exactly the kind of information, and packaging of the information–whichis very important too, in reaching people–that I look for to make available to my sociology students!  Thank you so much!  I went to the Sarah's Choices page and will make this available to them as well.

Nishtha, thank you for the reminder…  It is so easy to forego the little things sometimes to bring a smile to someone's face.   The smallest gesture can make someone's day!  We forget we hold so much power within us.

I don't know about you, but I'm heading out to put a smile on someone's face.  I have that power.  :-)  I am envisioning an older person in a grocery store.

Love to ALL of you today!!  Thanks for making ME smile!

Nishtha - 2 powerful videos with very clear messages. There are so many people who are in need in this world. Where to start? I think Sarah has the right idea - pick one or two causes and help make a difference there.
Thanks for those reminders.
